# Track Inventory

## Track inventory for option selections

You can track inventory for an option selection by linking its price with a Shopify product. Infinite Options can create a hidden product for you, or you can link one you already have.

### How it works

With [Add-on Pricing](https://shoppad.gitbook.io/infinite-options/~/revisions/5xmUPtXVHKlSZZKABv5e/increase-the-cost-of-an-option/native-bundling), each option selection can be linked to an actual Shopify product.

When a shopper selects an option:

* The linked product is added to the cart automatically
* Shopify tracks inventory for that product
* If the product is out of stock, it cannot be added

This allows Infinite Options to work together with Shopify’s inventory system instead of trying to replace it.

### How to set this up

1. Open your option set and add a price to the option value. See [Add pricing to your options](https://shoppad.gitbook.io/infinite-options/~/revisions/5xmUPtXVHKlSZZKABv5e/increase-the-cost-of-an-option/native-bundling).
2. Choose **Create a product for me**, then turn on **Track inventory** and enter the starting stock. Or choose **Link to an existing product** and pick a product that already tracks inventory in Shopify.
3. Optional: check the box to turn on **Hide this option when it reaches 0** (created products) or **Hide this option when the product is sold out** (linked products).
4. Click **Save**.
5. Test it: add the main product to the cart with the option selected, place a test order, and check that stock goes down in Shopify.

### Important notes

* Inventory is controlled by Shopify, not Infinite Options. The stock you enter when Infinite Options creates a product is a starting count only.
* Prices with Don't track inventory or SKU have no inventory.

### Frequently asked questions

<details>

<summary><strong>Why is my product showing as "Sold out"?</strong></summary>

If your product is showing as **Sold out** even though your main product has inventory, one of the linked add-on products is likely out of stock.

Shopify checks the inventory of every product included in the purchase. If any required add-on product doesn't have inventory available, Shopify will mark the entire product as sold out.

To resolve this:

* Check the inventory for your main product.
* Review the add-on products linked to your option values.
* Make sure the correct product or variant is linked.
* Restock any out-of-stock add-on products, or remove them from the selection if they should no longer be required.

<summary><strong>Will out-of-stock options be hidden automatically?</strong></summary>

Yes, if you turn it on.

Use **Hide this option when it reaches 0** for a created product, or **Hide this option when the product is sold out** for a linked product. A linked product is checked each time the page loads.

A created product can take up to about 2 minutes to disappear after it sells out. Without this setting, how unavailable options look depends on your theme.

No. Infinite Options displays and manages option selections, but Shopify handles inventory tracking. Add-on Pricing connects the two so inventory updates correctly.
